The Daily Maine Fact

Granite from Vinalhaven was used for the eight pillars that form the choir in the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, in New York City.

The pillars are each nearly 55 feet tall, eight feet at their widest diameter and weigh about 120 tons. They were conveyed to New York by special barges.
