The Daily Maine Fact

Name That Place Dept.: The towns of Fort Fairfield and Fort Kent have more in common than being located in Aroostook County.

The military facilities that gave them their names were both established in 1839 during the "Bloodless Aroostook War" between the United States and Britain.

And each was named for a Maine governor: Edward Kent and John Fairfield.
